I am an applied mathematician and fluid dynamicist, and my research aims to distill important processes in fluid flow in the environment and in industrial processes to their key mechanistic description via mathematical modelling and numerical simulation.
My research interests include the algorithmic identification of ocean mixing events, the dynamical systems interpretation of shear flows, and the modeling and design of industrial paper--making presses.
Prospective PhD students with their own funding are welcome to contact me at any time; I have several potential projects in mind. When I have funded PhD or Postdoctoral positions open, I will link to their adverts from this page.
Employment and Education
I am a Lecturer in Environmental Fluid Mechanics at the University of Dundee. My CV is here.
I was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia working with Prof. Neil Balmforth. I completed my PhD in 2016 at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics with Prof. Colm-cille Caulfield. My thesis focused on the transition to turbulence in stratified shear flows from a dynamical systems viewpoint.
